Information, not instruction

Everything published here is general information about residential renovation. It is not a specification, a design, a quote, or professional advice for your property. Building work is governed by local regulation and by the condition of the individual structure. A guide cannot see your house, so it cannot be the basis for a decision about it.

No professional relationship

Reading an article does not create any relationship with a surveyor, engineer, architect or legal adviser. Where a project touches structure, gas, drainage, electrics or party walls, engage a qualified professional in your own jurisdiction before work starts.

Accuracy and cost figures

Cost ranges are compiled from published schedules, supplier prices and tender results, and are dated in the article. They are indicative. Labour rates, material prices, taxes and local fees vary widely and change without notice. Never treat a figure on this site as a quotation, and never hold a contractor to one.

Links to regulations, standards, manufacturers and other publications are provided for reference. The destination is outside this site’s control, and its content may change or disappear. A link is not an endorsement of everything published at the other end of it.
